About our Staff

Camp Director and Founder Elisabeth Lynne Bjork has performed the piano for thirteen years and won numerous local, state, and national competitions. She founded Bach 2 Basics in 2009 with the dream of inspiring kids to learn musical concepts in a fun and interactive environment. Her achievements include 1st prize in the Dr. Sharon Edwards Piano Competition; Most Promising Performance Award and four-time finalist in the Harold Protsman Classical Period Piano Competition; 1st place (piano) in the Hampton Young Artists Competition; 1st place in the Fine Arts Competition for the city of Chesapeake, Virginia; and recognition in the North Carolina Symphony and Raleigh Symphony concerto competitions. She gave her orchestral debut in 2011 with the Raleigh Symphony Orchestra, and she frequently performs both solo and collaborative repertoire. She plans to record collaborative songs in summer 2012 with Art Song Central. In addition to performing piano, Elisabeth has played violin for both the Meredith College Sinfonietta and Bay Youth Symphony Orchestra. She is currently pursuing a piano performance degree at James Madison University under the tutelage of Dr. Gabriel Dobner. Elisabeth’s passions include performing, conducting, and instilling a love for classical music in the next generation. Her ultimate dream is to found a conservatory in the future.

Assistant Camp Director Emily Bjork took her first piano lesson at the age of seven and has never looked back. Throughout the years, she has won several competitions including 1st place in The David Carr Glover Scholarship Competition (twice), a Chesapeake Fine Arts Performing Grant, the Mary Smart Piano Scholarship Competition (finalist), the TMTF Honors Recital, and the highest marks for District, National, and International Guild. Her teachers include Suzanne Guy and Mirena Kickosola, and she currently studies with Harold Protsman at ODU while pursuing a BM in Piano Performance and a minor in English. She has distinguished herself as a dynamic, enthusiastic teacher in the Tidewater area and frequently judges local music events. Her specialty is helping children discover the joys and merits of music rather than viewing practice as a drudgery. She hopes to inspire many more children through Bach 2 Basics and private teaching

Camp Media Director Juliette Bjork is an accomplished pianist in her own right. She has studied for nearly ten years and has won recognition in several competitions including 1st place in the David Carr Glover Scholarship Competition (twice), the TMTF Honors Recital, and the Doris Sahr Grant Competition. Though she is an accomplished musician, Juliette is, at heart, an engineer and computer whiz.  She is responsible for the website and media design, as well as public relations.  She is also the recreation/activity leader at Bach 2 Basics and a vital part of the administrative staff.

Camp Photographer Michelle Bjork will take charge of camp photography and live media this year. A musician herself, she is a former member of the distinguished Virginia Children’s Chorus and currently studies voice under instructor Alyson Shedd.   Though she is first and foremost a coloratura soprano, Michelle has studied piano for seven years and has achieved recognition in the David Carr Glover Scholarship Competition. Her future plans include a degree in vocal performance and medical school.
